Dear Mother
I have the pleasure to answer your loving letter and was very pleased to hear that you are better, but I don’t know how dad will go on without his pipe, tell him to come out here. I cannot understand about you not receiving my letters because every time I have had one from you I wrote back at the first opportunity, and I did not get one from Lily for 3 weeks. We are out of the trenches again, after a very hard & trying time. Harry is alright but both of us have had a very narrow escape this time in the trenches. Dear Mother you never let me know how Horace is getting on. I have had a letter from Granny. Well I cannot think of much more to tell you this time so will close with fondest love
From your loving
