Dear Mother and Dad
I am writing to thank you for the things you sent me and to thank you for the letter also, We are out of the trenches again for a short period after a very hard and trying time, Dear Mother, the next time you send me things do not send a lot of cake but please send a tin of health salts instead. Tell Dad we got some rum out here at times that would make his mouth water. Can you tell me if Lily has been out on holiday because I have not received a letter from her for over a fortnight. I am beginning to think that there is something the matter. We had a letter from Algy and he says that he has got to go under an operation with his arm. Well goodbye Mother for the present, hoping to see you again soon and remember me to Harry and all with best of love from
Your son George
