I expect you thought I was dead

July 15 1915

Dear Mother,

I expect that you thought I was dead as I have not wrote before but I have been so busy that I have not had time. I am writing this and it is almost dark. When you write back my address 1212 Pte G.T. Gadsby, 5th Leicestershire, Regt, North Midlands division, No.6 General base Depot, Rouen. France. I am quite well but the sun about melts me, but I expect I shall expect to put up with it. Well goodbye, hoping to hear from you soon. I remain

Your loving son,

George xxx
