Dear Mother,
In answer to your welcome letter and I seem a bit better that I have heard from you again I thought that was the **** that told you. The doctor tells me that I must rest, I feel as fit as a first class **** that he says that it was brought on by heavy marching with a sore heel. I marched about 60 miles altogether with a piece out of my heel about the size as a shilling piece. I don’t think I shall be able to go out with the company as I heard that they were going to France on Saturday. But if they have gone I shall follow them because I am anxious to get out of here and amuck at the Germans. I would like to see Hilda now I bet she does look a duck.
I will now close with fondest love,
George
