Dear Friends, it gives me the great pleasure in answering your most kind and welcomed letter I received with great thanks and was so pleased to hear from you and to know that you was all well at home and I hope that this letter will find you in the best of heath as it leaves me and George and Harry quite well for saying what a trying time we have had in the trenches. My word we have given the Germans some stick this week. We are having some rest now. We are not in the trenches now but we are in some dug-outs not far from the trenches. We had a narrow escape while in the trenches but we don’t have to bother about them we still keep something. I will close my letter now with love to all at home and same yourself. I remain your sincere friend
xx George
