Dear Mother,

I arrived here alright and seen Harriet and Bridget out side the station and uncle Joe Willars was with them I went down for an hour because my train did not leave Leicester till 9 o’clock and the first parade on Monday morning me and fifteen others were called out to go before the doctor and there were only me and five more passed out of the sixteen.     The doctor rejected some chaps because they only had two bad teeth, I am sending this strap for Harry Cooker tell him to get it sown together and it will make him a good strap to work in.  the bacon did seam a treat after always being used to that sort ,always salty.  I told you how it would be with my cleaning stuff,I ain’t got it back yet and I see that he cleans his buttons now.  I am sending a knife for Horace, tell him to take it to a shop and get the rivets tightened up and then it will be alright.   Tell Dad that Algy came down the other night and I asked if he had got an old pair of boots to give me and I am going up to his billet to fetch them and if they are worth mending I shall get them mended and send them to him if he will pay the postage . I have tried to get a pair for Harry Cooker but I ain’t  got a pair yet, but I will keep trying. Well goodbye with fondest love to all, from your loving son. George.
